We believe in meaningful communication. Here is exactly what emails we send, when we send them, and how you stay in control.
We built My Sleepy Tale for families. Families are busy. The last thing any parent needs is another platform flooding their inbox with noise.
So we made a promise to ourselves: every email we send must be useful, timely, and wanted. If an email does not help you enjoy the platform better, we do not send it.
We built a throttle layer into every single email endpoint. It checks category limits, respects your preferences, and silently skips anything that would be excessive. You will never get five "contribution submitted" emails in a row if your family is having a productive storytelling evening.
If we would not want to receive this email ourselves at 10pm after putting kids to bed, we do not send it.
Every email we send falls into one of three categories. Each category has different rules about frequency and opt-out.
| When It Is Sent | Category | Opt Out? | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welcome | First time you sign in | Transactional | No |
| Payment Confirmed | Subscription activated | Transactional | No |
| Payment Failed | Card declined or expired | Transactional | No |
| Subscription Cancelled | You cancel your plan | Transactional | No |
| Story Approved | Admin publishes your story | Activity | No |
| Story Created | You submit a story for review | Activity | No |
| Series Shared | Someone shares a series with you | Activity | No |
| Contribution Submitted | Contributor submits an episode for your series | Activity | No |
| Episode Published | Owner publishes a new episode in a shared series | Activity | No |
| Contribution Rejected | Owner declines your submitted episode | Activity | No |
| Contributor Invite | Owner invites you to contribute to a series | Activity | No |
| Weekly Newsletter | Once per week (new stories, tips) | Marketing | Yes |
| Blog Announcement | New feature or blog post launch | Marketing | Yes |
| Morning Summary | Daily team digest (internal only) | Transactional | N/A |
| Evening Summary | Daily team digest (internal only) | Transactional | N/A |
Every email passes through our throttle layer before it reaches your inbox. Here is how it works for each category:
Welcome emails, payment confirmations, payment failures, and subscription changes are never throttled. These are critical messages you need to receive immediately, no matter what.
No limitContributions submitted, episodes published, series shared, stories created, and rejections are capped at 5 emails per user per 24 hours. If you hit the limit, the system silently skips additional emails until the window resets.
5 per user per dayWeekly newsletters and blog announcements are limited to 1 marketing email per user per 7 days. Even if we publish three blog posts in one week, you will only receive the first notification. The system also checks your unsubscribe preference before attempting to send.
1 per user per weekNothing bad. The action still completes (your story is still submitted, your series is still shared). The only thing that does not happen is the email notification. You can always check the platform directly to see updates.
Every email endpoint runs through this flow. Transactional emails skip the throttle and unsubscribe checks entirely. Activity emails check the daily limit. Marketing emails check both the weekly limit and your unsubscribe preference.
You can opt out of marketing emails (newsletters and blog announcements) at any time. There are two ways:
Go to Settings and toggle off newsletter notifications. Changes take effect immediately.
RecommendedEvery newsletter and blog announcement email includes an Unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are removed from the marketing list.
One clickUnsubscribing only affects marketing emails (newsletters and announcements). You will still receive transactional emails (payment confirmations) and activity emails (when someone contributes to your series). These are essential platform notifications.
This is just as important as what we do. Here are six commitments we make to every user:
Your inbox is your personal space. We treat it with the same care we put into making bedtime stories for your children.
