How It Works

Each story goes through a two-step process:

  1. Translation โ€” The English story is translated by AI (Claude) with specific instructions to preserve the gentle bedtime tone, keep paragraph breaks, and respect cultural nuance.
  2. Narration โ€” Each translation is narrated by a native-sounding AI voice (ElevenLabs multilingual v2) with calm, warm pacing designed for bedtime listening.
  3. Illustration โ€” A unique image is generated for each language, placing the lion and mouse in a culturally relevant landscape โ€” from the Rajasthani desert to the Hungarian Danube.

Why Multilingual Matters

For families raising children in a second language, bedtime stories are one of the most powerful tools for language exposure. A child in Toronto whose parents speak Hindi at home can hear a story in Hindi โ€” with the same characters and plot they already know in English.

For families learning a new language, the familiar story provides context that makes comprehension easier. The text highlights as the narrator speaks, turning listening into reading practice.

And for families who simply want their child to hear the beauty of another language โ€” Arabic script flowing right to left, the melody of Tamil, the rhythm of Polish โ€” this is a window into the world from the comfort of their bed.

A note on Arabic

When you switch to Arabic, the text automatically displays right-to-left (RTL). The illustration shows an Arabian desert oasis with palm trees and a crescent moon. Every detail is intentional.

What's Next

This is our first multilingual story. We plan to bring this capability to all 564 stories on the platform โ€” so every child can hear bedtime stories in their family's language, with illustrations that feel like home.
